There are no names bigger than Audi and BMW when it comes to the automobile industry. Both the brands have produced some stunning cars in the past and have performed very in the short tenure in the Indian market. The German and the British automaker are now once again going head to head in the form of the Audi R8 and BMW i8. Both these cars are absolute stunners and hold scintillating strength in terms of engine capability. So, let us compare the two and see which one comes out on top.
This is a hard one to choose as both the cars look stunning. Both the cars have a sporty appearance with a design that favors aerodynamics and enables the cars to be stable at high speed. The ground clearance is low for both the cars for the same reason. The fundamental thinking behind the designs of both the cars is same but they still look different. The Audi R8 has a beautiful side profile with chiseled shape. However, the front portion and the rear have been kept relatively clean. For BMW i8 however the design elements are edgier for both the front and the rear profile along with the sides. There are plenty of color options for both the cars with Audi R8 being available in the shades of Panther Black, Ibis White, Brilliant Red, Ice Silver Metallic, Suzuka Grey Metallic, Teak Brown Metallic, Samoa Orange and Estoril Blue Crystal. BMW i8 on the other hand does not have as many options with just four color choices. These include Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, Crystal White Pearl Metallic, Ionic Silver and Protonic Blue. When it comes to dimensions, Audi R8 comes with a length of 4426mm, a width of 2037mm and a height of 1240mm. BMW i8 on the other hand comes with a length of 4689mm, a width of 1942mm and a height of 1291mm. Being a hybrid car, BMW i8 is quite expensive but customers can buy used BMW cars in Delhi for a much more economical price.
Both the cars have some serious firepower behind them with Audi R8 featuring the 5.2 litre 40V Petrol engine that holds a displacement of 5204cc with 10 cylinders of 4 valves each. The engine gives away 601.4bhp power at 8250rpm and 560Nm torque at 6500rpm. Mated to a 7 speed automated transmission system, Audi R8 works with an All-wheel drive setup. With such serious firepower, Audi R8 and even the BMW i8 are quite expensive but customers can get used BMW cars in Delhi for lower price.
BMW i8 is an hybrid car that uses an hybrid engine with a 1.5 litre capacity. The 12V Hybrid engine has a displacement of 1499cc and runs on 3 cylinders of 4 valves each. As a result the engine gives away 231bhp power at 5800rpm and twists away 320Nm torque at 3700rpm. The engine here too uses automatic transmission system but has 6 gears as compared to 7 that Audi R8 offers. However BMW i8 also uses a four wheel drive setup.
When it comes to performance, BMW i8 can go from 0 to 100kmph in a span of 4.4 seconds whereas the top speed for the car is 250kmph. Audi R8 is quicker when it comes to reaching the 100kmph mark from a standstill taking just 3.2 seconds but its top speed is not better than i8 hitting 205kmph.
In terms of mileage, the Audi R8 works with a mileage of 4.32kmpl whereas the BMW i8 gives away a mileage of 37kmpl which is just mind blowing.
