The cell phones that are now ubiquitous in the pockets and purses of people all across the world could actually be harmful to health. Because they emit a constant radio frequency, they may very well be contributing to brain cancer and other sicknesses in the population. So far, studies on the harmfulness of cell phone radiation have been inconclusive. In this matter, I think we can agree that it is better to be safe than sorry. There are several products on the market out there today that can minimize the risk of harm from this cell phone radiation. It would only be prudent to exercise caution and use one of them until the official results come in. In fact, even the FCC, WHO and manufacturers have cautioned consumers to take precautions and use hands-free devices until the official definition of safe radio-frequency exposure levels can be reevaluated.
IPhone radiation cases are a new product on the market that is like the first line of defense against harmful cell phone radiation. Because your cell phone can stay inside the case at all times, you are always protected. These types of cases are gaining momentum gradually, but as of right now it is still a little difficult to find them on the market. The major phone case manufacturers have not picked up on it yet, so most are made by little-known companies and some have even started out as Kickstarter projects.
Probably the most well-known radiation-reduction case available today is the one made by Pong Research, which is based out of Virginia. The cases manufactured by Pong have been tested both by their in-house researchers and also by two independent labs. The average SAR-reduction rate of these cases is up to 91 percent on supported devices, which include the iPhone, iPad mini, HTC EVO, and Samsung Galaxy S. While these cases don’t block 100% of the radio frequencies (or else you couldn’t get calls!), the do reduce radiation by deflecting waves away from the user. In each case, there is a small conductive circuit designed to draw radio frequencies away from the head of the user.
Other companies currently manufacturing this type of radiation-reducing case include CellSafe in Australia and vest Anti-Radiation Technologies, whose products are available on Amazon. An Israeli company called CellLaVie produces a thin film designed to go over the surface of the phone and reduce radiation that way.
Another similar product is the eWall pouch, manufactured in Germany. They are essentially bags just large enough to fit a smartphone that have a loop at the top for cinching the bag closed. The eWall pouch is lined with a silver mesh fabric and consists of two parts- the main pouch and an outer pocket. Placing the phone in the outer pocket will block some radiation but still allow you to receive calls, and placing the bag in the inner pocket will block everything, including potential incoming calls.
This technology is still in its infancy, and hopefully, as more research comes into the public eye, more and more products like this will start appearing. For now, Pong cases offer great protection for a reasonable price, and eWall pouches offer considerable novelty and complete blocking.
